4 Pillars of Transmedia Storytelling – (Part 1 of 2)

on

I’ll be posting Part 1 and 2 from Media-con: convergence, convolution and control. Transmedia Storytelling is the foundation of strategic social marketing.

Media-con: convergence, convolution and control.

Henry Jenkins writes about seven core concepts of Transmedia Storytelling.

I propose combining some aspects in order to arrive at a measuring system like the ‘4 stars’ that Film’s get. Herein, each ‘star’ is represented by:

1. Narrative

2. Visual Pleasure

3. World Building

4. Problem Solving

At the risk of oversimplifying his 7 core concepts, I hope to make them more accessible, easier to apply, and well, brief.

The first 3 have been most heavily used in TV/Film. Gamer culture is most engaged with problem solving and has worked its way into the more immerssive experience of TV/Film and their transmedia elements. In Part 2 I will deconstruct each category and apply them to Film/TV/Gaming.
